Pole Position is an indoor go cart race track located near the Palms Hotel & Casino. See our photo with Kurt Busch at the event, above.

Proceeds from the evening benefited the Drivers for Vegas and Keep Vegas Strong charities. Drivers for Vegas is working alongside Zappos, who has been matching donations that have been made to the charitable organization.

A Las Vegas native, Kurt Busch tells us why he felt it was important to give back and be part of the Vegas Strong movement. Additionally, we speak about Nascar’s expansion in the Las Vegas market and what his Nascar future holds for him in 2018.

The last time I saw Jake was August 8, 2009. It was the day I graduated from the University of Florida. The wrestling superstar came to my graduation. See our photo above at his home this week.

Today, Jake says he has been sober for six years and has a new outlook on life. Almost a decade ago, the master of ring psychology had spoken about a doing a book on his life. Now, he says he has written 600 pages for a book covering the first half of his life. He plans to write a second book that would take us from there to the present.

Speaking candidly about his life, Jake talks about living in Las Vegas, how he avoids temptations in Sin City, his new pro wrestling school and why he wished he would have pursued sobriety sooner, among other topics.

With the Ric Flair documentary on ESPN, titled Nature Boy, debuting this week, Jake reveals to us that he and Diamond Dallas Page tried to reach out to Flair after his health scare earlier this year. He said they were interested in assisting him with his sobriety. Jake says Ric was not interested in receiving help from either him or Mr. Page.

Conversations with Jake Roberts are always a must to listen to. Our latest segment with him is no different. You can read the highlights and listen to the entire CYInterview below:

On his life today, Jake said this:

“I still struggle with, you know, not really feeling good about myself at times and I certainly give myself a reason to, but you know, enough’s enough and you gotta move on and where I’m at these days, man I just want to reach out and help as many people as I can, because I know that each time I do that I’m closer to getting my dream come true and that’s just to continue to live sober, you know, and to enjoy life.”

The pro wrestling legend does not have a publisher yet, but he says he has written 600 pages for a book covering the first half of his career. He wants to write a second book as well:

“We’ve got about 600 pages ready to go and right now I’m doing my last read. I’ve done about four last reads, but this is my last read for sure. I’m gonna go through it one last time and just check some things out and release it.”

Looking back: With Jake Roberts at my college graduation in 2009

After Ric Flair’s health scare in August, Jake says he reached out to the “Nature Boy” to help with his sobriety, but Flair was not interested in his or Diamond Dallas Page’s help:

“I even tried to help Mr. Flair and I hope Ric can do it. He’s sure going at it with the wrong attitude. He thinks he snapped his fingers, that he can just beat it. There’s a lot more to it. … He’s in the hospital and he’s made that decision to quit drinking. My God I made that decision a million times and he thinks that’s all there is to it. There’s a lot more to it because you know why he’s in that hospital, that disease we call alcoholism is outside doing pushups getting ready for him to come out of the hospital. You’re in a guarded position in the hospital. You know, there’s not a lot of alcohol around.”

When it comes to people seeking entertainment centering on the male physique, the latest installment of the Chippendales show at the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino fits the bill. Labor Day weekend 2017 was special, because it was the latest sendoff for celebrity model Tyson Beckford, who is part of the shirtless crew of men who make women scream nightly. Though Tyson might have joined Chippendales as a celebrity member, he easily fit into the crew.

Though Chippendales has been around much longer than the Magic Mike movies, starring actor Channing Tatum, an argument can be made that those films brought back interest in this type of performance. There are currently multiple shows featuring shirtless, buff men in the Entertainment Capital of the World.

As for the Chippendales show itself, men and women should take note that the show has ongoing nudity and teases. At certain points during the show, some of the audience’s women are given lap dances, slow dances and one woman was even asked to dress and dry off Tyson Beckford after he got out of a full nude, shower scene performance he did on stage.

From Bachelorette parties to a gals’ weekend out, Chippendales is a great stop for women who want to let loose and, perhaps, have some of their personal fantasies come true.

The multi Grammy winning artist, from the famous music group The 5th Dimension, has released a new song. Just out this last weekend, fans will be able to hear a track written by Lamonte titled I Wish I Could Fall In Love. The song’s vocals are performed by Julio Hanson.

For our latest CYInterview, we visited the home of LaMonte located near Las Vegas. See our photo above. On October 27th at the Suncoast Hotel & Casino, LaMonte will receive an honor for Lifetime Achievement at the Dream Awards. The award ceremony will pay tribute to many performers who entertained in Las Vegas showrooms.

In addition to his career in music, LaMonte is known for his work in photography, as well his love for everything baseball and softball. Later this year, he is slated to go to India to take pictures of the Taj Mahal. We look forward to seeing his work.

At this moment, the thing most important to him is that people hear the track Cease Fire about world peace, which deals with getting rid of all weapons of mass destruction. With the current concerns about nuclear weapons in the world, LaMonte’s track Cease Fire, which is also sung by Julio Hanson, is a cautionary reminder about what happens dealing with the evils of the war.

The notion being that the general public can be mollified through entertainment; think junk food and some kind of spectacle. As an example, this happens for millions of us on weekends in the Fall, when we watch football, while feasting on cheese laden nachos and pizzas or burgers and beer or cookies, cakes, puddings and pies or all of the aforementioned. This while immobilized in perfect passivity on our couches and reclining chairs.

I am no stranger to such gluttony and spectacle. I have participated in both. I still do on occasion, though I partake in less of those questionable distractions/void fillers with each passing year. I grow evermore ambivalent about their value, particularly in our current social setting, which finds us often unable to discern appearance from reality.

That said, I still like a good circus and if that circus takes place in a squared circle so be it. And we certainly have a circus coming up on August 26th when 40 year old, previously retired, undefeated, boxing multi-champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. – the elusive man of the mighty shoulder roll – steps into the ring against 29 year old UFC champion, mixed martial arts phenom, not-a-boxer, Conor McGregor.

The two principals of this matchup have given us a circus already. However, it is not the variety I enjoy. They went on a trash talking tour – performed at a new low level – which seems to speak to the general social entropy we currently find ourselves mired in.

Yes, 2017 is an annus horribilis. It is a year when technological innovations continue at a breakneck pace while courtesy, dignity, self-respect and the ability to trash talk with wit – think the late, great Muhammad Ali – seem headed to history’s ash heap. Perhaps I overstate just a bit, yet I do not believe the manner of promotion for Mayweather/McGregor will prove to be positive for boxing, at least not in the long run.

Anyway, enough with all the sociocultural lamenting and philosophical handwringing. After all, the point of bread and circuses is to provide us with an escape from the quotidian.

To gain insight into what we are about to see and who will win, we assembled a group of individuals who are no strangers to mano a mano combat. In fact, I believe, fairly, we could call them The League of Extraordinary Fight Commentators. They are:

Dan Severn – UFC Hall of famer and Superfight Champion, NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) World Champion, amateur wrestling All-American. Dan has one of the most impressive grappling resumes on earth, spanning MMA, amateur wrestling and professional wrestling. His book, The Realest Guy in the Room, sports a title that says it all. [Photo Above: Top Left]

Gary Stretch – Former British Super Welterweight titleholder. Super welterweight/light middleweight boxer who fought for the WBO middleweight championship in London. Did some modeling then transitioned to acting. Now, a producer/director/writer. Has done a documentary on Ronda Rousey titled, Through My Father’s Eyes. Helped train Rousey in striking in the beginning of her MMA career. Truly a man of many talents. [Photo Above: Bottom Right]

Ric Drasin – Former professional wrestler, professional wrestling teacher and golden age bodybuilder. Was one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s training partners at the original Gold’s Gym in Venice, California. He has also acted and currently hosts Ric’s Corner on YouTube. Ric has keen insights on training and the art of promotion. [Photo Above: Top Right]

Bobby Rooney – Former professional boxer, current boxing trainer. Bobby was born into the boxing game. His father, Bob Rooney, was also a professional boxer and boxing trainer, who helped Chuck Wepner prepare for his fight with Ali. Bobby is a consummate student of the boxing game, someone who brings ring experience and deep knowledge to any boxing discussion. [Photo Above: Middle Right]

Scott McGimpsey – Has amateur boxing experience, a past filled with athletic endeavors and currently enjoys his passion for one on one competition by playing tennis at a high level. Scott is particularly knowledgeable when it comes combat sports. He is a fan’s fan, not just talking the talk but having walked the walk. [Photo Above: Lower Middle]

Chris Yandek – CYInterview’s editor in chief. Chris has interviewed Art Davie, Dana White, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, Lenox Lewis, Don King, Steve Austin, Freddie Blassie and the list goes on and on. His interviews, spanning more than a decade and a half include a who’s who of professional wrestlers, mixed martial artists and boxers. [Photo Above: Bottom Left]

What did our panel, our League of Extraordinary Fight Commentators, have to say about Mayweather/McGregor? You will have to listen to this CYInterview to find out. All I can say is the individuals on this panel are not only knowledgeable but also true gentlemen. I believe any fan will want to listen to this CYInterview in its entirety.

He has directed episodes of popular TV shows including Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place. Mr. Williams has also been an entrepreneur.

Anson is currently promoting something he created, with input from his now deceased, famous cousin, Dr. Henry Heimlich. Dr. Heimlich, of course, is most well-known for creating the Heimlich maneuver, the technique which can help save people who are choking.

Anson’s new product is meant to address drowsy driving. Driving while feeling drowsy can lead to falling asleep at the wheel of a car, something that, frighteningly, he says he has experienced. Additionally, Mr. Williams, after having been diagnosed with colon cancer late last year, is happy to be cancer free he says. Having beaten cancer, he had the opportunity to appear on ABC’s Battle of the Network Stars, in which mixed martial arts star and former UFC Champ Ronda Rousey was his coach.

Featured columnist Jay Bildstein joins us for this interesting discussion with the actor, director and entrepreneur.

Discussing Alert Drops, Anson Williams shared this:

“We spent two years developing Alert Drops. No caffeine. No stimulants. No nothing. It’s lemon in a spray with the right amount of citric acid, the right amount of water, the right amount of sour lemon and we’ve already saved lives. Just in the subject groups alone, we’ve saved so many lives. It’s an amazing product and in this day and age of like craziness in this country where everything seems out of control, we can do something positive.”

SPECIAL NOTE: CYInterview would like to emphasize that a person who is sleepy should never get behind the wheel of a car. Additionally, CYInterview has no experience with the above mentioned product and does not take a position as to its value and effectiveness.

Discussing his time on Happy Days with Ron Howard, Henry Winkler and Don Most among other stars, Mr. Williams says it was more than an acting job. He says Gary Marshall gave him the opportunity to learn the art of directing. Anson would go on to direct episodes of numerous TV shows:

“Gary Marshall was very instrumental in terms of broadening our minds and opened up the door to see other opportunities. So Happy Days became much more than just acting on a show. He saw the entrepreneurial spirit in me and really inspired me to go in the business and create products and things like that. … He opened up the Paramount lot and I was able to observe and stand right by the best directors in the world. … When they were shooting all the musical numbers for Grease, you know, on the lot, I was there watching how they did it. So that was my education as a director. And that’s Gary Marshall.”

Discussing his appearance on ABC’s Battle of the Network Stars, he says his coach for the show was none other than UFC star Ronda Rousey. [You can see our recent CYInterview with the director/producer of the upcoming Ronda Rousey documentary Gary Stretch here] Anson had this to say about the MMA fighter:

“It’s so funny. Ronda Rousey was our coach. And she is such a doll. She was such a delight to spend the day with. What a wonderful person, really good hearted, talented, great, great person.”

Finally, Anson Williams recently had a battle with colon cancer. Now, cancer free, he tells us what he wants everyone to know about colon cancer:

“I can’t stress enough how important it is for everyone out there to get colonoscopies, so important, so important, because it’s the, colon cancer has grown 60 percent since 1990. And a lot of it has to do with the foods we’re eating, there’s so much processed stuff. And I don’t want to tell people not to eat meat or whatever, but there’s things you should definitely stay away from.”

If Mr. Stretch’s saga ended there, his life would be remarkable. But he was just getting started. Gary went on to have a career in modeling and acting. His acting work includes roles in the 2004 film Alexander and the 2006 movie World Trade Center.]]> Gary Stretch is a man of many talents. An accomplished boxer, he is a former WBC International Light Middleweight Champion. Arguably, his most prominent fight occurred in 1991 when he fought Chris Eubank in the billed Beauty v The Best contest for the WBO World Middleweight Championship.

If Mr. Stretch’s saga ended there, his life would be remarkable. But he was just getting started. Gary went on to have a career in modeling and acting. His acting work includes roles in the 2004 film Alexander and the 2006 movie World Trade Center.

Now, people will come to know Gary Stretch as a talented filmmaker. Seven years ago, this Renaissance man, hailing from Britain, befriended Ronda Rousey. From 2010 to 2017, he filmed Ronda as she progressed from little known judoka to MMA superstar. He witnessed her sacrifices and climb to glory.

Mr. Stretch crafted the footage of Ronda into a touching love letter of a film titled Through My Father’s Eyes. This is a documentary film that should appeal to MMA fans and non-MMA fans alike. Gary has captured compelling moments in the life of one of MMA’s biggest stars, for all the world to see.

The now producer/director/writer has also been working on another documentary film, Faith, about a variety of boxers and their heartfelt trials and travails. Additionally, on the feature film front, Gary is slated to direct the story of boxer Carlos Palomino.

Gary Stretch’s story is a testament to the grit, determination and creativity of a human being who puts himself out there in life and goes for it.

You can read the highlights and listen to the entire CYInterview below:

Reflecting on his boxing career, Gary tells us this:

“With most careers, you just need somebody to believe in you. I had someone as a young boy and that propelled me to keep going and it gets to a point when you start believing in yourself and then your career really starts to flourish and so my background in boxing was simply that. I got pushed into it, but then in the process of it learned trust, respect, discipline and it put my life on a different course and that’s really how I got into the game.”

Well beyond the squared circle, acting and filmmaking have become areas Gary Stretch excels in. Focusing on the filmmaking, his seven years of footage from 2010 to 2017 of Ronda Rousey’s life, going from relative unknown to worldwide mega celebrity, will certainly bring his creativity to a whole new audience. Speaking about Through My Father’s Eyes, the filmmaker tells us about this emotionally resonant project and how he saw something special in Ronda, before the world saw her in a UFC cage.

“People say to me, ’How did you know?’ And to be honest, I didn’t know what was gonna happen. But I thought there was a movie there anyway because if she lost or won or became or didn’t, the commitment this young girl had in my eyes is a movie.”

Ronda Rousey Documentary, Through My Father's Eyes The Ronda Rousey Story, Ronda Rousey Film, Ronda Rousey Documentary, Ronda Rousey Documentary Film
Gary’s documentary film on the UFC star is titled Through My Father’s Eyes: The Ronda Rousey Story

He tells us that early on in her MMA training, Ronda lived in her car, as she was working towards her dream. Ms. Rousey’s sacrifices are captured in footage spanning seven years. Gary says she has seen the film and this was her reaction:

“She wept. She loved the movie. She only saw a very rough version.”

Gary Stretch’s filmmaking career is something to keep an eye on. Aside from his accomplishments in boxing and entertainment, he is a purveyor of some potent messages about life and who we are as people. For example, he shared this with us:

“We’re very powerful. We just don’t realize it. And people are all looking outwards at the news and the TV and the rubbish that they watch. When you turn inwards, we can do a lot of things we don’t have a clue about. We can do anything if we really want to do it. You just gotta be brave enough to want it and take the step and trust the next one will come.”

Alison comes from a family with show business ties. Her father worked for Liberace in Los Angeles. On what it was like to live in a home in Los Angeles, down the street from Liberace, she says this:

“He [my dad] was sort of the L.A. person assigned to Liberace. And we actually rented a house in the Hollywood Hills around the corner from Liberace so my father could be on call. And this, of course, meant I got to go see Liberace’s shows when I was a child because you always want to take the eight year old to Liberace. And actually I met him, he’s wonderful, but my parents really did tell me when we went to the show, ‘Don’t say anything because no one must know that Liberace is gay.’ I said, ‘I’m sorry. I’m eight. I know he’s gay.’”

Known for her role as Nellie Oleson on the iconic TV show Little House on the Prairie, she says this about the show today:

“They tapped into the psyche of millions of women of a certain age. And it’s carried on like that and it has become part of a fabric of our culture and part of that and part of our language and things we talk about where we reference Little House [on the Prairie]. But bizarrely, it is now part of the French culture. People in France now have expressions and things they say that are because of Little House on the Prairie.”

Over the last two years, 1970s star Mason Reese has been talking with us about his now YouTube series Life Interrupted, featuring Alison Arngrim. With her now being considered for an Emmy Nomination in the Best Actress in the Short Form Comedy category, she tells us about how the project came to be:

“I had met Mason several years ago in New York. I was doing my show at The Cutting Room. And I ran into Mason, he was coming to another event and I was like, ‘Oh my God, you’re Mason Reese.’ And we talked and we exchanged numbers and hung out and then he came to L.A.. He was talking about doing a talk show and it was very fun. I remember saying to someone, ‘I have Mason Reese on speed dial on my phone, strangest thing.’ And then like about two years ago my friend Steve Wishnoff, the writer and actor, Mason and he had become friends.

And Mason said, ‘I think I want to do something. I haven’t done show business stuff in ages. I think I want to do something but I don’t know what it would be. I tried to think, what would it look like? Like a sitcom? Who would I play?’ And so Wishnoff starts saying, ‘What if it was sort of like you but not you? What if it was the messed up version of you?’ And they began kicking around ideas.”

Speaking about how to succeed in show business, the veteran actress gives us a great analysis, sharing that it is all about overcoming rejection:

“I have been in the Screen Actor’s Guild since I was five years old. I have been auditioning and working since I was a child. I was told rejection is normal. You’re gonna read for 100 parts before you get one. There’s things that aren’t gonna work out. With my dad and his clients, I saw people who, where the careers were going nowhere and then suddenly they had a big thing or they were a star and it wasn’t going anywhere. And you never knew. There was an element of chance. You did everything you could, but a lot of it sometimes you were in the right place at the right time. And there were elements you could not control and you could not take every single thing personally, you just couldn’t.”

She has performed her one woman show, Confessions of a Prairie Bitch, all across the United States. Ms. Arngrim says she would be open to the idea of doing a long run of her show at a Las Vegas venue:

“That, of course, would be fun because you get to do it every night and then you can just try out new things all the time. That would be very attractive.”
