At November’s Vegas Strong fundraiser for Nascar driver Kurt Busch, we had a chance to speak with one of the show’s cast members Cheryl Daro. See our photo above.

The actress and self-proclaimed theater geek told us about what being part of the Baz cast has meant to her. She tells us one of the reasons people should come and see Baz is the amazing songs and singing that go on throughout the entire performance.

A graduate of the Atlantic Theater School in New York City, Cheryl is part of a stage performance group. Stage shows have room for growth on the Las Vegas Strip. Perhaps, we will see more shows like Baz pop up on the boulevard.

We Bring You a Panel Discussion on Dance Therapy: Writer/Thinker Taylor Rae and Neuroscientist Dr. Kristen Willeumier are Back with Us for an Important Discussion About the Power of Movement" ]]> If you ever wondered how dance impacts our lives, you have come to the right place. Last year, CYInterview first introduced you to writer/blogger Taylor Rae. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, she has joined us for some compelling conversations about a variety of topics, including minimalism and the digital age.

Now, Taylor is back with us to discuss dance therapy. Dance is an important part of Taylor’s life and she specifically wanted to talk about dance therapy for this, our latest segment with her.

Additionally, joining us for this panel is none other than neuroscientist Dr. Kristen Willeumier. Kristen has been with us numerous times and we always appreciate her powerful insights. This time, she provides us some in-depth analysis on how our brain reacts to dancing, movement and how we can connect with other people authentically through dance. Last month, Dr. Willeumier was featured in an article in the October issue of Marie Claire [see here].

Rounding out this panel is featured columnist Jay Bildstein, who joins us to talk about our fears when it comes to movement in general and dance in specific. Many people have anxiety about getting up in front of a group people and dancing. We look at why this happens and how our perceptions and emotional intelligence can grow through dance.

Please listen to this almost one hour CYInterview below to explore how dance can have a positive impact on our lives:

Mighty Coach Leach is Back: Talks His Cougars’ Chances at Bringing Home the Gravy in the Apple Cup, Will They Beat Washington? http://www.cyinterview.com/mighty-coach-leach-is-back-talks-his-cougars-chances-at-bringing-home-the-gravy-in-the-apple-cup-will-they-beat-washington/ http://www.cyinterview.com/mighty-coach-leach-is-back-talks-his-cougars-chances-at-bringing-home-the-gravy-in-the-apple-cup-will-they-beat-washington/#respond Tue, 21 Nov 2017 08:07:39 +0000 http://www.cyinterview.com/?p=20172 Continue reading "Mighty Coach Leach is Back: Talks His Cougars’ Chances at Bringing Home the Gravy in the Apple Cup, Will They Beat Washington?" ]]> After a 35-27 win over Utah on November 11th, the stage is set for Washington State to move forward. The Cougars enjoyed a bye week before arguably their biggest game of the Mike Leach coaching era. If they are able to defeat their state rival Washington this week on the road in the annual Apple Cup, it would be the Cougars’ first Pac 12 North Division Championship in the program’s history. They would then continue on to the Pac 12 Championship.

Washington State head football coach, NY Times bestselling author Mike Leach told us what he thinks is most important going into the game against their arch rival, “The biggest thing is and probably the most important thing is, is don’t get distracted by them. Worry about what, just worry about what we can do. You know, worry about being the best team we can be. And, you know, it takes a certain amount of discipline to do that, but I think we need to continually reinforce that.”

Our 15 minute CYInterview touched on many topics for the upcoming game against Washington and what is at stake this week. Coach Leach also reviewed his team’s progress, his quarterback Luke Falk breaking the Pac 12 touchdown passing record, what he did during the bye week and how he makes a great gravy to go with a Thanksgiving dinner.

That’s about to change. The multitalented Charlotte Moroz joined us to speak about her puppet artistry. A resident of Brooklyn, New York, she shares with us interesting information about puppeteering, within the realm of the performing arts.

Living in Brooklyn has, in part, given her the opportunity to create many unique performances with puppets. Her story of being a puppeteer, a theater maker, playwright and all around entertainer may give you a whole new perspective on puppets in general.

As someone who enjoys small and offbeat performance settings, Charlotte’s opportunity to grow as a performer has taken some interesting turns. She is a member of the Society for Misfit Puppets, for example.

During our conversation, Ms. Moroz gives us insight into the multilayered world of puppets. Her overall goal is to have a TV show one day. She says she has been working on developing a concept for one.

The changes have taken the book to a whole new level. A great hangout and one of the nicest sportsbooks in town has now become a must see destination for any sports fan visiting Las Vegas.

Wynn Las Vegas sportsbook manager John Avello had input on the renovations. He says so far there has been nothing but positive reactions to the changes. On why people should come see the new sportsbook and Wynn Las Vegas, he told us, “Because there’s nothing like it in the world. It’s the eighth wonder of the world.” A veteran of Las Vegas’s gaming industry, the oddsmaker catches us up on a variety of topics.

In this, our latest CYInterview with Mr. Avello, we discussed favorites to the win Super Bowl and College Football Playoff, the Oakland Raiders moving to Las Vegas, how the Las Vegas Golden Knights have impacted hockey wagering in the town, what it will mean to have a Super Bowl in Las Vegas one day and many other topics.

The last time I saw Jake was August 8, 2009. It was the day I graduated from the University of Florida. The wrestling superstar came to my graduation. See our photo above at his home this week.

Today, Jake says he has been sober for six years and has a new outlook on life. Almost a decade ago, the master of ring psychology had spoken about a doing a book on his life. Now, he says he has written 600 pages for a book covering the first half of his life. He plans to write a second book that would take us from there to the present.

Speaking candidly about his life, Jake talks about living in Las Vegas, how he avoids temptations in Sin City, his new pro wrestling school and why he wished he would have pursued sobriety sooner, among other topics.

With the Ric Flair documentary on ESPN, titled Nature Boy, debuting this week, Jake reveals to us that he and Diamond Dallas Page tried to reach out to Flair after his health scare earlier this year. He said they were interested in assisting him with his sobriety. Jake says Ric was not interested in receiving help from either him or Mr. Page.

Conversations with Jake Roberts are always a must to listen to. Our latest segment with him is no different. You can read the highlights and listen to the entire CYInterview below:

On his life today, Jake said this:

“I still struggle with, you know, not really feeling good about myself at times and I certainly give myself a reason to, but you know, enough’s enough and you gotta move on and where I’m at these days, man I just want to reach out and help as many people as I can, because I know that each time I do that I’m closer to getting my dream come true and that’s just to continue to live sober, you know, and to enjoy life.”

The pro wrestling legend does not have a publisher yet, but he says he has written 600 pages for a book covering the first half of his career. He wants to write a second book as well:

“We’ve got about 600 pages ready to go and right now I’m doing my last read. I’ve done about four last reads, but this is my last read for sure. I’m gonna go through it one last time and just check some things out and release it.”

Looking back: With Jake Roberts at my college graduation in 2009

After Ric Flair’s health scare in August, Jake says he reached out to the “Nature Boy” to help with his sobriety, but Flair was not interested in his or Diamond Dallas Page’s help:

“I even tried to help Mr. Flair and I hope Ric can do it. He’s sure going at it with the wrong attitude. He thinks he snapped his fingers, that he can just beat it. There’s a lot more to it. … He’s in the hospital and he’s made that decision to quit drinking. My God I made that decision a million times and he thinks that’s all there is to it. There’s a lot more to it because you know why he’s in that hospital, that disease we call alcoholism is outside doing pushups getting ready for him to come out of the hospital. You’re in a guarded position in the hospital. You know, there’s not a lot of alcohol around.”

Who Does He Think is Playoff Bound? More" ]]> A little more than halfway through the college football season, questions remain to be answered. Is Alabama the best team? What teams still have a chance to make the four team College Football Playoff? Which programs are delivering surprises? And finally, which programs are disappointing?

To answer all these questions, we welcome back college football expert Phil Steele. Phil is the editor of a long running college football preview magazine.

The teams we discussed, that still have a chance to play for the national title, include Alabama, Penn State, Ohio State, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Clemson, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Washington and Washington State. The ESPN analyst also tells us about two surprise teams, Central Florida and South Florida, who remain undefeated.

Phil also shares why Florida State is having the most disappointing season so far and who are his four teams to make the College Football Playoff.

This is a cold fact that does not even begin to touch the surface of the human loss and suffering being experienced by the friends and family of those who have been killed, along with the pain and challenges facing those who were wounded.

Two months ago our Editor in Chief, Chris Yandek, moved to Las Vegas. Now, CYInterview is based in Las Vegas. Prior to that move, we had been covering the entertainment capital of the world more and more.

A week ago this past Friday evening, Chris went over to an intersection near Mandalay Bay where a candle and flower memorial had been placed for those killed and wounded during the shooting. The lead photo for this segment shows a tribute to those who have died.

Joining Chris and me for this segment is CYInterview regular, neuroscientist Dr. Kristen Willeumier. Kristen provides us with great insight and analysis on dealing with loss both from a personal as well as a neurobiological point of view. Dr. Willeumier was recently featured in the October edition of Marie Claire in an article titled Meet the Extensionists: People Who Believe Immortality Is Possible.

Kristen is mourning the recent, sudden loss of her father, a Vietnam veteran and firefighter and so, this segment takes on special meaning for her. We wish her and her family well at this difficult time.

Grief and loss are challenging things to deal with. We hope this segment might, in some small way, be able to help people with healing and strengthening themselves.

After the airing of the segment, I spoke with Bobby by phone, a few days later, about the cancer treatment he underwent, as well as other topics. It would be the second of probably 10 so times that I would have the good fortune of speaking with him over the last 15 years.

Earlier this week, it was reported that complications stemming from throat cancer led to Mr. Heenan’s passing. He was 73 years old.

Bobby was the type of person that if you called him and had an audience, he would be happy to make time. Whether that audience was 100 people or one million, he was always a man willing to give of himself. He loved the pro wrestling business and he loved talking about it.

In 2002, just after WWE’s purchase of its competition, the WCW, Heenan was candid about the downfall of professional wrestling and how reality TV and other things were negatively impacting ratings. Additionally, he spoke out about his dislike for the product WWE was putting out at the time.

The coversation you will hear took place just before the release of his 2002 book Bobby The Brain: Wrestling’s Bad Boy Tells All. There were stories about “Mean Gene” Okerlund, Gorilla Monsoon, Andre the Giant and his thoughts at the time again on why the WWE was going in the wrong direction.

Few people in the wrestling business were nicer than Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and many others will miss him and his wit. He was a man who no doubt was one of the best managers in the business’s history.
