We welcome back the 2016 DNC Elected Delegate from California to tell us what she thinks about the state of the race.

Featured columnist Jay Bildstein joins us for this conversation, reflecting back on Donald Trump’s own words during this election cycle and how some of the things he has said makes him unfit to be President of the United States, among other things.

Attorney Allred believes Donald Trump does not represent the majority of America and that he is not someone who would bring people together as President of the United States:

“For a long time I thought his real aim was Trump TV and not the presidency. But maybe he got caught up in it and started believing he really could be President. Let’s hope that we can prove him wrong. But, you know, this is not something, I don’t think he represents the values of the majority of the American people. He represents the values of a minority. And this is, you know, we need people who are gonna bring people together, not engage in stereotypes about ethnic groups, religious groups, based on gender.”

Responding to media reported comments Mr. Trump made about her sending hundreds of letters to people who work for him, Attorney Allred said it is an absolute lie:

“It’s an absolute lie. I challenged, you know, he said I sent hundreds of letters to his employees suggesting that somehow there, you know, that if they had any claims against Donald Trump. Well, first of all, I challenged him to produce those hundreds of non existent letters and of course he never has because it was a complete and utter lie. So there’s another lie out there on the Internet today probably by one of the Trump supporters. These, you know, I have never in 40 years of watching elections seen any one candidate engage in just a tsunami of lies day after day after day. I mean, literally at this point, it’s thousands of lies. And it’s just, I think it’s one of the reasons that so many people will be happy when the election is finally over on Tuesday.”

When it comes to voting this year, Ms. Allred said this:

“As Hillary said, this vote is no longer about Trump or about her. It’s about us. It’s about us and who we are and who we want in the White House. And I think a vote is a statement of who we are. And I’m proud to be a Hillary supporter. I have been for eight years and I’m gonna be on Tuesday.”

Featured columnist Jay Bildstein joins us for this CYInterview.]]> A week after the events of the Democratic National Convention, elected California Delegate, powerhouse attorney and CYInterview regular Gloria Allred came by to speak about her thoughts on Hillary Clinton becoming the Democratic nominee for President of the United States [see here].

With polls tightening between candidate Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump and many media outlets questioning the health status of the former Secretary of State, we welcome back Attorney Allred to give her thoughts.

Featured columnist Jay Bildstein joins us for this CYInterview. You can read the highlights and listen to this entire CYInterview below:

In recent days, it was reported that Secretary Clinton was recently diagnosed with pneumonia. Attorney Allred agrees that the media’s coverage of Hillary Clinton’s health, compared to how a male presidential candidate’s health would be covered with a similar health challenge, has been sexist:

“Double standard, let’s call it what it is, sexist. … I hope she’s just gonna recover really soon and I am sure she’s getting good medical care and will.”

In 2012, Gloria joined us along with former two term Governor of New Mexico Gary Johnson [see here]. The then 2012 and now 2016 Libertarian Candidate for President recently made the news for not understanding an interviewer’s question about Aleppo. Ms. Allred says this about Governor Johnson’s recent headlines:

“I do agree with you Gary Johnson did not get equal treatment when they said you’re done or whatever they’re saying about should you drop out. But you know it has a double edge for Gary Johnson. One, you know obviously it’s embarrassing that he didn’t know, it’s very important, but two, he did get more press attention than he’s generally been getting lately. So you know, is any attention good attention when you’re trying to increase your place in the polls and your identification with voters? I don’t have an answer to that.”

On why Donald Trump should not be President of the United States, Gloria Allred uses a football analogy about his lack of experience to hold the highest office in the land:

“I like the analogy that someone said one time, you know, if you have a losing football team, do you say, ‘Well, good, let’s bring in somebody who has no experience with football and let’s put them in charge and then maybe they’ll do something for the football team.’ That’s ridiculous. Of course you don’t do that. You bring in a coach who has some experience. Maybe it’s gonna be a different coach, but you don’t bring in someone who knows nothing about football.”

With the first Presidential Debate only a few weeks away, Attorney Allred has this advice for Hillary Clinton:

“I think she just needs to continue being Hillary because the Hillary that we know is the Hillary that got her this far. And I think she needs to be careful and not make major mistakes and try to keep it focused on, you know, policy and her vision for the future and not to be brought down by, you know, the kind of mud slinging that he wants to do, which will be to avoid talking about policy.”

Ms. Allred, who has appeared on CYInterview more than any other guest, has participated in many important moments with us over the years, covering a variety of legal, social and political topics.

Reflecting on the Democratic National Convention, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, Attorney Allred joins us for her latest segment with us, to talk about what’s at stake in the 2016 Presidential Elections and why Donald Trump cannot be elected to the White House.

Featured columnist Jay Bildstein joins us for this CYInterview. You can read the highlights and listen to it in its entirety below:

Reflecting on Hillary Clinton becoming the first woman nominated to a major party ticket for President of the United States, at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Gloria said this:

“I know a lot of us know that it was a long battle just for women to win the right to vote. Took from 1848 to 1920, all of us those years, all of those decades just to win the passage of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which is suffrage, the right to vote for women. So we’ve only had it since 1920. And now the next chapter, which we’ve been fighting for, is equal participation of women in the political process and of course in the world of business and every other aspect of life as well. Finally, after all these years of male presidents, to finally have someone nominated, a female for the highest position of power and responsibility in our nation, it’s just, you know, it’s the next chapter and it’s really important. We’ve always said, you know, that a woman’s place is in the house, the White House and now, we’re gonna work to make this a reality.”

On the presidential campaign of Republican candidate Donald Trump, Attorney Allred believes Mr. Trump could put the country at risk, with his access to nuclear weapons, if he were elected President of the United States:

“If he has, as Hillary Rodham Clinton said, something to the effect of, any candidate who can be baited by a tweet is not someone who should be able to have the nuclear codes in his hands. In other words, this is something that, you know, suddenly he could set off a war. He could be sending nuclear weapons because he doesn’t like what someone from another country said. And this is the way he may retaliate or may respond. I’m not willing to take that risk with my daughter’s life, with my grandchildren’s life, with my life or with anybody else’s life. And so I think that even just that alone disqualifies him for the presidency.”

Additionally, Gloria Allred says that Mr. Trump sets a bad example for the nation:

“The children are watching. The children are watching. And what they’re seeing is not acceptable. We can’t have that for four years and God forbid eight years, God forbid even one day with the President of the United States who is supposed to set the moral tone for everyone in the White House.”

A Writer Sits upon his deck
He sits and writes and dreams and thinks
While God Almighty Nods and Winks

This writer comes from other lands
Now, the sands of time are upon his hands
His brow furls as he ponders and queries
Yet of being a scribe he never wearies

Meantime, Naysayers do what they do best
They tell him to quit and join the rest
To give up his dreams and cast them aside
But what drives this writer is more than pride

He has a message he wants out
Yet he is not the kind to scream and shout
Some of his ideas might seem a bit strange
Though it is not your life he wants to rearrange

He’s a thinker, a dreamer, a man in the mist
But when we turn around he is in our midst
This wordsmith dreams of a better way
With acceptance and kindness the order of the day

It is Early Morn
Well before the break of dawn
He’s in his bed, yet quickly arises
And from his pen flow reflective surprises

Truthfulness is what he seeks
He knows dabbling in truthiness truly reeks
‘Cause the illusion of truth can yield apocalyptic hell
While truth itself can calm any swell

Obliteration and the abyss
Mother’s milk and a tender kiss
Eagles soar and doves coo
The world holds good and evil; so do me and you

This writer’s world can be a lonely place
It’s not like poker; there is no Ace
It is not chess either, though at times he feels rooked
Though his gentle suggestions should not be overlooked

He sits and writes and dreams and thinks
While God Almighty Nods and Winks

The multiple car crash reportedly killed one person and injured others. The accident occurred near the home of powerhouse attorney/CYInterview regular Gloria Allred. Ms. Allred joins me and featured columnist Jay Bildstein to discuss the legal aftermath of this automobile tragedy.

Speaking about the car crash involving Bruce Jenner, which was near Attorney Allred’s home, she told us this:

“I am very familiar with the fact that the accident happened, it so happens that I have a home very close to there and I was trapped in my home sort of all day. I couldn’t get out because I would have to take the Pacific Coast Highway to get into Malibu and I could see and we actually heard the crash as well.”

After the automobile crash, Bruce Jenner hired prominent defense attorney Blair Berk. Ms. Berk has represented Kanye West. Mr. West is married to Jenner’s step daughter Kim Kardashian. Speaking about the Olympian’s legal counsel, Attorney Allred shared this:

“He’s hired a criminal defense lawyer, a person that is well known, Blair Berk. I also came into contact with Blair Berk during the time that she was representing Kanye West and he was, Kanye ended up being criminally prosecuted, entering a, and was convicted of battery against my client. But the point is she’s a well known criminal defense attorney and so my guess is that he is concerned about whether or not he might be criminally prosecuted. I don’t know whether he will be, whether he won’t be and my guess is that decision’s not even been made, but because he was involved in it and I think the car in which a woman died, you know, he’s lawyering up and he has a right to do so.”

On what Bruce Jenner might face in the aftermath of the tragic four car collision, Ms. Allred says we have to wait and see, after all the facts have come in:

“We have to wait for the facts. Although that’s not something most people in the press want to do anymore. It’s like they would like to be first, not necessarily focusing on whether they’re right or not. Apparently, I mean it is being made clear by the sheriffs that Jenner did cooperate, that he did take the field sobriety test, he did voluntarily submit a blood sample and that he didn’t appear to be under the influence of anything. So you know, how this all gonna end up? I don’t know. I don’t have a crystal ball. But yeah, there’s gonna be a lot more attention to it.”

Giving us an update on her client Shantel Jackson, who is boxer Floyd Mayweather’s ex-fiancé, and catching us up in general, she shared this:

“On the Mayweather, we’re still litigating that and waiting for a court hearing, which I think was supposed to be in March in which they’re seeking to dismiss some of our causes of action, not all and you know, so we’re gonna have to wait for the judge to make some decisions about that. As you know, I’m also representing a number of the alleged victims of Bill Cosby. So we’ll have more to say about that soon.”

Speaking about his thoughts on the gala running 20 years, Roy told us this:

“It’s hard to imagine. We’ve been through so many of these with such great people, great entertainment. I can’t believe that my wife has held out this long… She has more energy than 10 other people and to put this on every year is an enormous amount of work.”

From Barry Gibb who was at the first Gala to the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin this year, Lea said she cannot believe it has been 20 years:

“No. And I am looking younger every year. How is this possible? No. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years. It went by, I was married 20 years. So my husband said, ‘The first 20 years went by in a blink.’ And it did. Yeah. … People sometimes forget why we are here and it’s great to have a party, but it is a party with a purpose. And we’re here because people that are here choose to do something to help kids at risk.”

Earlier this year, Roy Black garnered national headlines when he began representing pop star Justin Bieber. Speaking about him, the well-known attorney said this:

“Justin is the kind of person that us elderly men admire because he has every girl between 15 and 25 hungering after him. So we can only fantasize about things like that.”

After much waiting, Lea told us that she is finally releasing her fiction book on the Miami social scene, in April 2015. We got a chance to read a draft of the book last year and found it to be an accurate portrayal of Miami. The characters in the book are based on some of the real denizens of the city.

“Let me tell you, the people that aren’t in it are gonna complain. The ones who are in it are gonna say I didn’t make them look good. And then everybody’s gonna make up their own story about what really happened and what I said happened and is this true or is this not true and it’s just gonna be so much fun watching all this. … It’s just a silly, fun summer read.”

During legal proceedings in the Oscar Pistorius case, Roy provided some analysis for the media. The trial received worldwide attention. Giving his thoughts on the verdict and sentencing, he said this:

“I thought the verdict was correct that’s their no chance it was pre-meditated murder because no proof of pre-meditation. So manslaughter is classically what happened here. You can’t shoot through a door without knowing who’s on the other side. On the other hand, quite frankly I think that five years was probably a more lenient sentence than I thought. I figured at least seven or eight or 10. So I was surprised. So I think the judge really believed that he did this shooting totally unintentionally. If she thought there was any intention to it, she would have given him more time.”

Speaking about what’s coming up for her, Lea told us this:

“My website’s gonna go big, big, big next week. I have waited till after the Gala to make Lea Black Beauty, really put it on the map in a big way because I haven’t had time to manage it. So once we start the flood gates, I will have to be able to manage it. So we’re starting that next week.”

Regarding what keeps him busy these days, Attorney Black told us this:

“I am very much involved in legal education, teaching at the law school [University of Miami], teaching lawyers, I love doing that. Of course, I still have a full case load of clients. They’re always interesting kinds of cases that we do like Justin’s case or will have securities cases or mortgage fraud cases, all these interesting people. And what’s great about it, what keeps me going is each case you have to learn something new. That’s what’s so much fun about it. It’s not like we do the same thing every time. You have to capture some new body of facts and that’s what keeps us young.”

Powerhouse Attorney Gloria Allred Weighs in on Domestic Violence, Athletes, Floyd Mayweather and Advice for Mrs. Rice, More http://www.cyinterview.com/powerhouse-attorney-and-friend-of-cyinterview-super-lawyer-gloria-allred-weighs-in-on-domestic-violence-athletes-client-and-advice-for-mrs-rice-more/ http://www.cyinterview.com/powerhouse-attorney-and-friend-of-cyinterview-super-lawyer-gloria-allred-weighs-in-on-domestic-violence-athletes-client-and-advice-for-mrs-rice-more/#comments Thu, 11 Sep 2014 01:26:19 +0000 http://www.cyinterview.com/?p=16748 This week the subject of professional athletes and domestic violence has led to a national dialogue, of sorts, on the issue.

Last week, powerhouse attorney and CYInterview regular Gloria Allred [see here] held a press conference with Floyd Mayweather’s ex-fiancée Shantel Jackson. Ms. Jackson claims domestic abuse, among other things, in a lawsuit she filed against the famous boxer.

In the last few days, the video which is reported to show former Baltimore Raven running back Ray Rice punching his girlfriend, now wife, Janay Palmer made its way onto the Internet and has become a story driving the media cycle. The video led to Mr. Rice being let go by the Baltimore Ravens. Many believe his football playing days are finished.

Attorney Allred is arguably America’s most prominent women’s rights attorney, in addition to being a champion of many individuals who find themselves underdogs in need of legal representation.

With domestic violence and professional sports being on the media’s front burner, Gloria joins us to talk about representing Mr. Mayweather’s ex-fiancée Shantel Jackson and shares highlights from their press conference last week. She also provides advice for Ray Rice’s wife Janay Palmer and gives her thoughts on the NFL, and professional sports in general, when it comes to the subject of domestic violence.

Additionally, we discussed a variety of other things attorney Allred has been up to lately. You can read the highlights and listen to the entire 20 minute CYInterview below:

Speaking about representing Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s ex- fiancée Shantel Jackson, Ms. Allred told us this:

“At one point, she and Mr. Mayweather became engaged and she even stood by him through a criminal proceeding, which resulted in the imposition of a three month jail term on him for domestic violence against another woman. And she visited him during his incarceration. So our lawsuit alleges that shortly after his release from jail in August of 2012 that he and Shantel had an argument and the lawsuit further alleges that during the argument he assaulted her. Approximately one week later, he asked Ms. Jackson for her forgiveness and he promised that he would never assault her again. … We don’t think that any woman should be forced to suffer this extremely abusive, outrageous and harmful conduct from which he inflicted on Shantel.”

Giving her thoughts on Mr. Mayweather’s alleged actions towards her client, Gloria shared this:

“The fact that Mr. Mayweather Jr. is rich and famous and I think reported to be the richest athlete in the world, the highest paid anyway, the fact that he’s rich and famous and powerful and has fans worldwide it just doesn’t entitle him to abuse the woman who he said he loved and who loved him and he has no right to invade her privacy. He has no right to reveal private medical facts to the world such as that she was pregnant with twins and make public statements to the world about why he believed the pregnancy ended. We don’t think any man rich or poor has the right to assault women, to take the property, to invade their privacy, to threaten them, to carry out their threats, to hurt them and humiliate them and defame them.

And Mr. Mayweather Jr., he may make his living inflicting pain on others in the boxing ring, but he has no right to force Shantel to endure the pain that he inflicted on her outside of the boxing ring. And she had a right to resist his efforts to control her, she had a right to end her relationship with him without being threatened and humiliated and retaliated against and harmed. So we’re gonna seek to hold him legally accountable in a court of law for his many acts of misconduct targeted at her and we expect to prevail.”

Weighing in on the situation regarding former NFL player Ray Rice punching his wife Janay Palmer in an elevator video, she said this:

“I am happy that Ray Rice was terminated by the NFL and the NFL has a new policy. But of course the NFL’s taken a lot of criticism. I think it’s well deserved for only getting a two game suspension in the first place. … I think they did the right thing. But I think, you know, people who have fans have to speak out, public has to speak out and say, ‘You know what? Something matters more than the game and violence against women is a very, very important issue and there has to be consequences for perpetrators of that violence.’”

Attorney Allred agrees that the video being leaked on the Internet forced the NFL to take action and they tried to save face:

“I think there was nothing they could say that would have, you know, quelled the furor that arose today when that, when that was shown, that video of what happened inside the elevator. But, you know, one would think that they wouldn’t have to see that in order to have more than a two game suspension for him. Because what was seen outside the elevator, the fact that he was criminally prosecuted, the fact that, he I think, he entered a no contest plea or he entered a plea, that should have been sufficient. I don’t think he should have only suffered a two game suspension. But today they were embarrassed obviously and you know, the old a picture’s worth 1000 words, well there were no words they could say that would have been sufficient. Ray Rice just had to go. … With power comes responsibility and I do think that the NFL needs to set the right example and the players should know they have a code of conduct. … They better set a good example and if they can’t set a good example in their personal life, not willing to do it, then they deserve whatever consequences follow as far as I’m concerned as long as it’s legal and peaceful.”

The wife of Ray Race, Janay Palmer issued a statement in defense of her husband. Gloria has some thoughts and advice for her:

“She’s a battered woman clearly. … I think what she need is, I think she’s got a child by him, so that complicates things. She obviously needs support, needs counseling, needs to have, you know, understand what her options are. She may have more power in the relationship than she realizes, that she doesn’t realize it maybe because I don’t know if she’s been to an attorney to advise her what her rights are. … I don’t care what she said to him. There should not have been, he had no right to punch her out. So yeah, she needs counseling, she needs support, she has to be very careful not to be isolated. She’s very vulnerable.”

As someone who has also been part of the legal vanguard for the LGBT community, Ms. Allred recently officiated a gay wedding of a friend. She shares her story:

“I was contacted by a pal of mine named Dan McFadden and Dan drives me every year and produces my car in the Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade in Los Angeles in West Hollywood every year. And he was marrying his beloved Charles and he asked if I would marry them. And I, you know, in 2004 we were the first in California to challenge the ban on same gender marriage and we fought for six years on that issue, won the right for our clients Robin and Diane to marry and for thousands of other couples to marry. Anyway, I accepted and I did marry them and there is a picture on advocate.com that anybody can Google and find of performing the ceremony. And I loved it. It was very moving. Both their moms were there. Their family and friends were there. And it was very special and I was honored to do it.”

Finally, regarding another important case she is working on, Gloria tells us she filed a lawsuit on behalf of a man who worked for the nationwide pizza chain Little Caesars. Ms. Allred says the company has denied her client’s husband health insurance because he is married to another man:

“We also have an important case we filed recently, which is very important for gay and lesbian rights that I filed a lawsuit on behalf of Frank Bernard who went to work for Little Caesars Enterprises, which is, they have, you know, their franchises nationwide and I think in some places around the world as well. And he was told after 90 days he could get health insurance for his spouse. I don’t know if they knew or realized at that time that his spouse was also a man because they’re two gay men who were married. And in an event, ultimately when he didn’t get his health insurance card for his husband, he inquired within the company and basically got the run around a lot.

But ultimately he got a letter and I have the letter in black and white where they say they fully provide health insurance to legally married couples or common law couples of the opposite sex. So there it is. They will not provide health insurance to the spouse of an employee if it’s a same sex couple. So we sued them and this is a very important issue and we’re gonna fight hard on this one unless it resolves, you know, without a trial.”

We had the chance to finally meet Gloria in person at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel. We spoke with her about the prestigious award she received, as well as other topics. You can read the highlights and listen to the entire CYInterview below:

Speaking about winning the lifetime achievement award at the National Trial Lawyers Summit, Gloria told us this:

“Part of what I like to do when I accept an award like this is to try to inspire and encourage other lawyers to work in the area of civil rights, to fight for the individual against the rich, the powerful, the famous, against big corporations, against government, against wrongdoers, batterers, those who sexually abuse children, rapists and, you know, to ensure equal rights for women with men, rights for minorities such as gay, lesbian and transgender individuals, rights for those who have been discriminated against on account of their race or other factors over which they have no control. I like to get them excited to want to be in this field to be warriors for justice.

I do have a passion for justice and I like to encourage others to go into this field because they’re trial lawyers here from 50 different states and I know that lawyers can do more to fight for the individual, to level the playing field, to bring power to meet power on the other side and to win justice and to empower the individual. So that’s what I encourage them to do. As I told them when I finished my remarks, I am inspired by Mother Jones who said, ‘Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living.’”

An extensive, upcoming CYInterview is slated to be released with adult film star Joslyn James. Ms. Allred represented Ms. James during Tiger Woods’s circumstances back in 2009. Speaking about her past client, the powerhouse attorney offered this about Joslyn:

“I think she was very courageous to speak out and talk about what she experienced in her relationship with Tiger Woods. She did have a relationship with him and I felt that he, in the end, was not taking responsibility for the relationship that he had with her and she’s very bright, she was in love with him, she had I think over 1000 texts and emails from and to him and I think she deserved better than she got from Tiger Woods and I’m very proud of her that she stood up and she spoke out as well as she did.”

For 19 years attorney Roy Black has been alongside his wife Lea at the annual event bearing their name, which benefits The Consequences Foundation. Mr. Black has been with us before on CYInterview, commenting on various topics. We spoke with him about the event and the charities it supports. Additionally, we got his thoughts on The Real Housewives of Miami.

The Blacks’ Annual Gala raises money for the Consequences Foundation. Roy talks about how the charity helps at risk youth:

“There are many thousands that we’ve worked with getting scholarships, putting them in schools, getting them clothes, getting them eyeglasses, getting their teeth fixed, all the kinds of things that interfere with kids actually getting an education because you know our goal is to see as many of our children as possible get a decent education and get a decent start in life. The problem is how many kids are there that don’t have a chance. I mean we’ve gotta give them a chance. They’ll run with it if we can help them out.”

It was back in January when we asked Lea her thoughts on what Roy’s opinion of her being on The Real Housewives of Miami [see here] was. Now Roy tells us what he thinks of the Bravo program:

“I do not get involved in The Real Housewives. I have enough drama in my life as it is. I’m not getting between these women when they start getting in arguments and anything and I’ll support my wife. She’s always supported me on everything I do. So I support her being in the program, but it’s not my kind of thing I can assure you.”

One of the talents for the evening’s event was season five winner of American Idol Taylor Hicks. Taylor is currently performing in a show at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. He spoke with us about that and some of the charitable causes he works with, beyond his donating time to The Blacks’ Annual Gala. See my photo with Taylor above.

In 2006, Taylor Hicks won season five of American Idol. Today, he is the first performer from the Fox show to have a long running gig in Las Vegas, at the Paris Hotel. Taylor told us this about the Las Vegas experience:

“It’s going great. I’m in Paris, the hotel. It’s a wonderful gig and to be able to have a headlining show in Vegas, it’s pretty awesome.”

Besides donating his performing time to The Blacks’ Annual Gala, Taylor told us about some of the other charitable causes he’s involved in:

“I do a lot with Habitat for Humanity and obviously my state [Alabama] has been kind of snakebit so to speak with tornadoes. So the Red Cross is real high on my list.”

CYInterview Catches Up with Judge Alex at Rico Love’s 30th Birthday Party on South Beach http://www.cyinterview.com/cyinterview-catches-up-with-judge-alex-at-rico-loves-30th-birthday-party-on-south-beach/ http://www.cyinterview.com/cyinterview-catches-up-with-judge-alex-at-rico-loves-30th-birthday-party-on-south-beach/#comments Sun, 30 Dec 2012 05:00:07 +0000 http://www.cyinterview.com/?p=13822 see here].]]> While attending music producer Rico Love’s 30th birthday party recently, at the SLS Hotel on South Beach, we ran into Judge Alex Ferrer. CYInterview followers will recall, last year we had an in depth conversation with the judge [see here]. His daytime court TV show, Judge Alex, is in its eighth season of syndication. The gavel wielder spoke with us for a few minutes during the evening’s festivities. You can read the highlights or listen to the entire CYInterview below:

When it comes to trial participants in his courtroom, Alex says sometimes it is about more than money:

“Almost anybody can avoid court, but it’s just a question of whether you’re willing to walk away from something that you feel you’re entitled to. A lot of people have a real desire to see justice done. I’ve had people sue when it cost them more money to sue than they were gonna recover in the lawsuit just because of the principle they really wanted somebody to tell the other person that they were flat out wrong. At the end of the day, most of the time lawsuits are about a lot more than just the money. They’re about a lot of personal feelings and things that have happened in the past and I think that’s what makes our show so popular is people can relate. People at home see the people telling their story and they can relate to it and it’s a good vindication to see justice done.”

During the Casey Anthony trial in 2011, Judge Alex was one of the on the scene commentators, providing analysis, to media outlets. The judge reflects back on the murder trial:

“I thought it was one of the most amazing cases I’ve ever seen. I thought it was more fascinating than the OJ Simpson trial which captivated the country. I think that she is clearly, was clearly guilty. I think that she murdered her daughter. That’s my opinion. They jury didn’t find it proven to them beyond every reasonable doubt. So that’s the way the legal system works. But people who think the legal system failed, they’re wrong. The legal system does not, our justice system does not guarantee a result. It guarantees a process that a prosecutor, a defense attorney will get to pick a jury from a panel and show the evidence to that jury and they decide. That happened. It didn’t reach the verdict most of America would’ve reached, but the system still worked.”

As we spoke about in 2011, Alex says he still wants to do Dancing with the Stars:

“Yeah. If they call me I’ll do it. Absolutely. I don’t know how good I’ll be at it, but I’ll certainly have fun trying.”
