  • Scorsese Meets Pope for Silence

    On December 1st, Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese met Pope Francis at the Vatican. The meeting took place prior to a special screening of his latest film Silence. Silence is a story about two Jesuit priests who travel to Japan to find their mentor. Above, is a photograph of Mr. Scorsese meeting Pope Francis. Below, are some additional photos of the meeting. Since 2013 Pope Francis has led the Catholic Church. He is the 266th Pope.

Featured columnist Jay Bildstein joins us for this segment. As someone who grew up with Toni Tennille’s music, Jay gets in-depth with the singer about a variety of topics.

  • Actor Jon Donahue Talks: His Upcoming Role in Inferno; Tom Hanks, Director Ron Howard, More

    From working in a movie theater to being on the big screen, the story of actor Jon Donahue is one of persistence and triumph. In a few weeks, more film enthusiasts will know his name as he stars alongside Tom Hanks, as Professor Robert Langdon, in Inferno. The film is the third one based off the popular Dan Brown books. The 2006 movie The Da Vinci Code and the 2009 film Angels & Demons, the two prior films, were blockbusters. Inferno is slated for release later this month. In the film, Jon Donahue plays the role of Richard Savage, an employee of the World Health Organization. Throughout the movie, he is in pursuit of Professor Langdon. The filming of Inferno took him, Tom Hanks and director Ron Howard all over the world, including Budapest, Italy and Turkey.

  • Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright at Netflix Emmy Party at NeueHouse in Los Angeles

    This past Sunday evening was the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards. Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars were there to honor the best that television has to offer. The cast of Netflix’s political drama House of Cards was on hand. The show was honored with nominations for Outstanding Drama, Lead Actor in a Drama and Lead Actress in a Drama, among others. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, the stars of the popular show made appearances at the Netflix Emmy party at NeueHouse, in Los Angeles.

  • Documentary Filmmaker/Author Angelo Guglielmo Offers Perspective and Insight on the 15th Anniversary of September 11

    Sunday was the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. What has come to be known as 9/11 is a day Americans remember and pay their respects to those most directly impacted by one of the darkest days in the nation’s history. Native New Yorker Angelo Guglielmo is a documentary filmmaker and author. His Emmy nominated documentary The Woman Who Wasn’t There, featured some of the survivors who were in the Twin Towers that day.     The year was 1975 and the Captain and Tennille song, Love Will Keep Us Together, was tearing up the charts. Toni Tennille and her husband Daryl Dragon aka the Captain were one of the most popular male/female music duos of the 1970s. The also titled album, Love Will Keep Us Together, went on to win the Grammy for Record of the Year. Her life with Daryl Dragon, left her longing to bring out the emotional side of her now ex-husband, but she says it was to no avail. In her new autobiography Toni Tennille: A Memoir, the singer shares the highs and lows of her personal and professional life. Worried what her fans would think of her divorce from Daryl, Ms. Tennille clears the air. From playing at a place called the Smoke House in her early days to performing at the White House, this is Toni Tennille’s story. Living today in Florida near her sister Jane, Toni is happy where her life is and wants to reassure her fans that she and Darryl Dragon are still good friends and speak often.

    Grammy Award Winner Sam Moore Out in Support of Phil Collins: Soul Man a Powerful Presence on the Red Carpet

    On March 11th, world renowned music star Phil Collins performed his first concert in years at The Fillmore Miami Beach. We were on hand to speak with Phil and his partner Orianne, on the red carpet [see CYInterviews here]. Soul music legend Sam Moore was one of the celebrities who came out to show his support for Mr. Collins. The two worked together. Sam Moore is a Grammy Award winner and a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He was also named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the 100 great vocalists of the rock music era. Known for being part of the music duo Sam & Dave, with Dave Prater, and as a solo performer, Mr. Moore’s most famous hit is Soul Man.

    Phil Collins is Back! First Concert in Years, at The Fillmore Miami Beach

    This past Friday evening, mega music star/songwriter Phil Collins returned to the stage for his first musical performance in many years at The Fillmore Miami Beach. Known for his work with Genesis and as a solo artist, Mr. Collins multiple hits include: Against All Odds, Another Day in Paradise, Easy Lover, One More Night and In the Air Tonight. His seven song performance during The Little Dreams Foundation Benefit Gala, a charitable organization he founded with his partner Orianne Collins, was the first step in what may be the beginning of the next chapter of Phil Collins’s music career. The Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe winner has been talking about the possibility of an active performing career going forward. There have also been reports about a possible world tour, but he has not confirmed that yet.
